Think you know about web design – what about the Skeuomorphic model?

MARKETING: Responsive design is the creative phrase of the last year or so when it comes to (re)designing travel sites and mobile services. But sometimes a technique which on the one hand can seem a bit old skool appears to be what some travel sites may actually need. READ MORE on WegbDesignBooth.

Take a look at your wardrobe – there are some clothes with fake, decorative pockets. These are skeuomorphic pockets, as they simply imitate real, functional pockets.

Another catchy well-known example is cigarettes. The paper around their filter is printed to look like cork.

Turn your attention to various spoke patterns in automobile hubcaps and wheels. They resemble earlier wheel construction, wooden or wire spokes.

Or do you remember flame-shaped light bulbs? Some of us probably still have those pompous antique style electric chandeliers with the light bulbs that look like real candles.

Where is the going? Well, it applies to the web as well – in fact, all Apple interfaces are also Skeuomorphic in nature.
